The " Fruit in Schools" program being questioned

The European Commission could abandon the School Fruit Scheme program that provides fruit for more than 8.6 million children.

A meeting of the European Commission with stakeholders is planned for March 2nd. A "coalition" of organizations and associations called on the Commission to give priority to the health of children and not to the "doctrine" or legislative budget.

There are 22 million overweight children in the European Union which 5.1 million are obese . The trend is continuing and could lead to the addition each year of 1.2 million children being overweight and 300,000 obese.
