Fruit and vegetable production increases

TurkStat, the Institute of Turkish statistics has published its figures for the production of fruits and vegetables for the year 2011.
Turkish production of vegetables increased by 5.8% over the previous year and reached 27.5 million tons. Tomato production increased by 9.6%, onions 9.9% , carrots 14%, beans 4.6%, melons 2%, and watermelons 3.9% .
Turkish production of fruits increased by 3.6% to 17.2 million tons. Apples were up 2.9%, apricots 44.4%, plums 11.9%, cherries 4.9%, oranges 1.2% and mandarins 1.8%.
The institute expects the production of walnuts and hazelnuts to fall 26.7% and pistachios 12.5%, while prodcuction of almonds will increase by 26.9%.
