The National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa) reported on the opening of the Argentine market for the Peruvian granadilla.
The access to this destination with 45 million potential consumers was achieved after the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality of Argentina approved the regulation of fruit flies in passion fruit for this market.
Before export, shipments of Peruvian fruit will go through an official inspection by Senasa, after which the Phytosanitary Certificate will be issued, in compliance with the requirements established by the receiving country.
Peru has 5,130 hectares planted with granadilla, and the main producing regions are Pasco (26%), Junín (18%), Huánuco and Cajamarca (12% each), La Libertad (7%), Lima (6%), Cusco (5%), Piura (4%) and others.
The volume certified for export of granadilla increased by 155% in 2021, compared to 2020. The fruit was exported to 10 international markets in 2021, with Bolivia being the main importer (42% of placements), followed by Italy (32%), Spain (12%), the Netherlands (7%), and France, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom and Brazil where 7% of the certified volume was allocated.
