The typhoon ravaged a quarter of banana plantations and will disrupt shipments for the third largest exporter of bananas.
The banana sector is severely affected by typhoon Bopha (Pablo) that hit the Island of Mindanao, the main production area for bananas Phlippines (our info from 12.06.2012).
The Filipino Association of Producers and Exporters announced the
destruction of 10,000 hectares of bananas has been destroyed. The country totals 42,000 hectares. The association estimated $318 million in damage at the moment.
The replanting will take 9 months after the next harvest.
