The harvest campaign of almonds in the Spanish southern community of Andalusia ended this year with a drop by 46% compared to last season. Around 54% of the whole crop has been harvested in the sole province of Almería. Far behind follow Málaga with 25% of the total production, Granada (7%) and Jaén (5%).
Compared to the average of the period 2002-2005 the reduction for this campaign has been by 31%.
The production levels are in line with those of the other producing areas of the Country, since the latest data show a decrease of the national output by 33%.
A reason for such reduction of the Spanish almond production is that, according to experts, the weather conditions in some of the producing areas have not been favourable for this kind of dry fruit’s cultivation.
