The FLIA 2013 Award won by City Farming

City Farming, the greenhouses with LED lighting by Staay Food Group from the Netherlands, won the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA) 2013.

With City Farming, the LED lighting allows seeds to grow seedlings in 35 days, regardless of their natural season. The use of pesticides is unnecessary. Temperature, irrigation and fertilization are controlled automatically. 

At the 2nd place in the ranking, Apfel-Schiffchen, dried apple slices developed by Elbe-Obst Vertriebs GmbH, Germany. Their new drying technology prevents browning of slices and provides a clear cut slices. At the 3rd place, Flower Sprout by Tozer Ltd, United Kingdom, a cross between Brussels sprouts and kale with green and purple leaves.
