The Jordan ministry of Agriculture is about to finalize a new strategy to regulate and encourage organic farming. The organic model was introduced for the first time in a pilot project for the production of organic olives in 2004. At that time nine farms of Jerash joined in the project, which was funded for a value around 303,000 euros by a Japanese International Cooperation Agency and was implemented through the Japanese International Cooperation for the Community Development in collaboration with the Agriculture ministry.
The project was completed in last April 2007 and now the ministry has announced that it will be expanded to other kind of crops such as fruit, vegetables, citrus trees as well as animal breeding.
Various regions of the Country, including the Jordan and Ghor Valley, will be involved in the new initiative.
The person in charge for this Unit at the Agriculture ministry Diana Masaadeh, declared that widespread organic farming in the Reign will open new possibilities to exportation of organic product in the United States and the European Countries.
