Thanks to this new protocol the Chinese market could become the most important market for Turkish cherries.
The first Turkish cherry exports to China started in August 2017. Volumes were minimal and one of the main obstacles to large volumes has just been removed.
A new phytosanitary protocol for the export to China of cherries from Turkey has canceled the condition that the product should wait 16 days at 1 ° C before being exported. This new protocol paves the way for more important exports, according to Turkish exporters who believe that the Chinese market could become the most important market for their cherries in the medium term.
Chinese imports of cherries account for USD 1.3 billion a year. In 2018 Turkish exports of cherries to China accounted for only 26,000 USD.
In 2018 Turkish exports of cherries totaled 162 million USD, to 59 countries including Germany and Russia.
