Mozambique banana producer hit by daily power cuts, disrupting operations

The site represents one of the district’s most significant agricultural operations.
Production at a banana growing and processing unit in Guijá, Mozambique, continues to face interruptions due to poor electricity supply, with managers reporting around 20 power cuts per day. The outages affect irrigation and processing activities, slowing overall operations.
The issue was raised last week during a visit by Gaza Governor Margarida Mapanzene, who is assessing progress under the district’s Economic and Social Plan. Mapanzene acknowledged the problem but did not outline specific measures to address the unstable power supply.
With 115 hectares of bananas in production and around 250 workers employed, the unit represents a significant agricultural operation in the district.
