Ukraine produced 108 000 tonnes of nuts last season and awaits 113 000 tonnes for the 2017/18 season.
Nut crops are gaining ground in the country, with good performance in production (+ 4%) and export (+ 8%).
According to a recent USDA FAS report, Ukraine is expected to produce 113 000 tonnes for the 2017/18 season and export 73 000 tonnes over this period. An increase of more than 4% in volumes produced (108 000 tonnes in 2016/17) and more than 8% in volumes exported (67 500 tonnes in 2016/17).
This increase in production is due to particularly favorable weather conditions and the development of high yielding orchards (varieties, fertilizers, irrigation). The total area dedicated to nuts is expected to reach 16,200 hectares this year.
Exports of 2017/18 are forecast at 73 000 tonnes, the Middle East and the European Union are expected to remain major markets. The share of shipments to neighboring countries is expected to increase.
