Significant production in Chile where walnut surfaces are surpassed only by grape surfaces.
In Chile, the nut sector is one of the most dynamic agricultural sectors in recent years and its outlook is excellent with an expected doubling of its exports.
Chilean Walnut Commission estimates the export volume to 70,000 tons for this season and professionals are predicting a doubling in the next 5 years. The walnut sector has grown rapidly with now 40 000 hectares planted, with only grape surfaces being larger.
In order to continue to make headway, significant investments will be needed at the level of production but also in closer cooperation between producers and exporters as well as in promotion. These investments are valued at USD 10 million and could lead to a new dynamic for the years to come.
