Modernisation of the Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries
France
Wednesday 09 April 2008
The French Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries continues its modernisation, which began in December 2007.
The procedure foresees several measures:
On April 4, the French council for the modernisation of public policies (Conseil de modernisation des politiques publiques) confirmed that French local departments for equipment (Directions Départementales de l’Equipement – DDE) and French local departments for agriculture and forestry (Directions Départementales de l’agriculture et de la forêt – DDAF) will merge into local departments for equipment and agriculture (Directions Départementales de l’Equipement et de l’Agriculture – DDEA).
A merger test has already been implemented tentatively in 8 sectors and the entire procedure will end in January 2010.
The Council also decided the creation of a local body for the protection of life, in terms of food safety and consumer protection.
As the reorganization will enable the Ministry to benefit from a wide range of local structures to run more efficiently, the whole reform will improve the public service and thus will better meet consumers’ and professionals’ needs.
