New president elected to head Cogeca

The election took place in Brussels (Belgium) during a 2-day meeting with representatives of European agricultural cooperatives. The new president will lead for the next 3 years the organization of European agricultural cooperatives.
The new president of Cogeca is Ramon Armengol (Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España), he will replace the outgoing president, Thomas Magnusson (LRF, Sweden).
The election also appointed six Vice-Presidents: Agnieszka MALISZEWSKA (Federacja Branzowych Zwiazkow Producentow Rolnych, Poland), Tiina LINNAINMAA (Pellervo, Finland), Thomas MEMMERT (Deutscher Raiffeisenverband, Germany), Leonardo POFFERI (Alleanza delle Cooperative Italiane, Italy), Bernard ADER (COOP of France, France), and JørgenMIKKELSEN (Landbrug & Fødevarer, Denmark).
Ramon Armengol listed the top three priorities for his first mandate: to sustain current and future farmers, feed a growing population and intensify climate and environmental measures.
For Armengol, European agricultural cooperatives and their consolidation are essential to support a European agricultural sector in which 96.2% of farms are classified as family farms.
