Açaí supply increases as Brazil scales up production across key Amazon regions.
Brazil’s açaí production is forecast at 2 million metric tons in 2026, up from 1.8 MMT in 2025 (+11%), according to a USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) report.
Production regions
Brazil accounts for over 99% of global açaí supply, with output concentrated in the Amazon. Pará dominates production (1.6 MMT in 2024), followed by Amazonas (91,345 MT) and Amapá (22,222 MT), with smaller volumes from other northern states.
Exports
Brazil exported 55,798 MT of açaí products in 2025, broadly stable year-on-year. Due to perishability, exports are almost entirely frozen pulp and processed products rather than fresh fruit.
Destinations
The United States is the main market, followed by Europe and Japan, with demand centred on beverages, supplements and functional foods.
Trends
Production expanded 70% between 2015 and 2024, supported by global “superfood” demand. Domestic consumption is also growing, at around 15% per year.
Challenges
The supply chain remains constrained by perishability. Açaí must be processed within 12 hours of harvest, while quality declines significantly after 48 hours. Production is also concentrated in a short 100-day harvest window, limiting supply flexibility.
Logistics are a key bottleneck, as fruit is sourced from remote Amazon areas with limited infrastructure, requiring rapid transport and processing capacity.
