First refrigerated containers carrying Chilean citrus and pomegranates departed the terminal this week.
Terminal Puerto Coquimbo has launched Chile’s 2026 citrus export season with the arrival of the Polar Perú, beginning the third consecutive year of regular container services for fresh fruit from the centre-north of the country.
The vessel operated between May 11 and the early hours of May 12. During the call, the terminal received 130 empty refrigerated containers and shipped 65 loaded reefers carrying clementines, mandarins, tangerines, lemons and pomegranates.
Weekly service until late June
The weekly service is expected to run through the end of June, giving regional exporters a direct logistics route for their citrus shipments and reinforcing Coquimbo’s role in fruit exports.
Terminal Puerto Coquimbo said the operation involves coordinated work between shipping lines, exporters, transport companies and public services to keep the season moving efficiently.
Citrus exports enter stronger season
The new campaign follows a solid 2025 season for Chilean citrus. According to estimates from the Citrus Committee of Frutas de Chile, exports reached nearly 444,000 tonnes last year, up 11% from 2024.
The United States remains the main market for Chilean clementines and mandarins, while Japan is a key destination for lemons.
