Tuesday 06 November 2007
The full extent of the blaze at specialist fruit and vegetable supplier Wealmoor's packing facility in central England is yet to be revealed.
The Wealmoor produce packing facility at Atherstone in central England is assessing the cost of the fire that tore through the building on Friday, claiming the lives of four firefighters.
It remains unclear as to how the company's produce supplies will be affected.
Specialising in exotic vegetables, legumes and exotic fruit and organics, the company is involved at all stages of the supply chain, growing, importing, marketing, packing and distributing produce.
The group, which has been operating since 1973 and is owned by Ratilal Dhanani, distributes over 60 varieties of fruit and vegetables to UK retailers, including lychees, figs, sweet potatoes, dates and kumquats, most of which are sourced from West Africa.
The blaze claimed the life of retained firefighter Ian Reid, while colleagues John Averis, Darren Yates-Bradley and Ashley Stephens remain missing.
