The berries will be the best export products in the years to come.
Peruvian producers are considering to conquere new international markets thanks to a large supply of berries (blueberries, physallis, raspberries ...).
For the president of SIERRA EXPORTADORA, Mr. Alfonso Velasquez, berries are the fruits that have the greatest export potential in the years to come. The volume produced currently ensures the profitability of investments but to increase it, it is now necessary to restructure production in the Andean region. For this region, which can no longer rely on potatoes and maize, raspberry is a crucial issue, provided modernization and expansion of irrigation are achieved.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, more than 2,000 hectares are used to export blueberries to China. Peru produces 7432 tons of these fruits per year, while coffee exports decline. Fruit exports could triple in the coming years, mainly with shipments to China and Russia.
