Production +13% for the frozen vegetable industry

The Spanish frozen vegetable industry is the second largest in Europe after Belgium.
The frozen vegetables sector once again recorded a remarkable performance, with production growth of 13% totaling 774,996 tons and a turnover of 775 million euros in 2017, according to ASEVEC data (Asociación Española de Manufacturers de Verduras Congeladas).
As far as products are concerned, broccoli is the leader with 130,088 tonnes or 16% of the volume following peppers 14% and peas 12%. With respect to destination markets, international demand now captures the majority of domestic production. Export volumes totaled 391,974 tonnes in 2016 and 497,623 tonnes in 2017, or 64% of production.
The main destination for frozen Spanish vegetables remains the EU, notably France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands. Outside the EU, the main markets are the United States, Brazil, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
