Ethiopia has started to export organic bananas. Tonnage is still small, but these exports are encouraging for the future.
Exports of organic bananas have just started, reports the Ethiopian Horticultural Agency.
The Agency, announcing the start of organic banana exports, says that the fruits originate in areas of Arbaminch and southern provinces. The first exports are for 200
tons of organic bananas to be shipped each week.
This production is part of a comprehensive plan for development of agriculture in Ethiopia. In the region of Gamogofa it is estimated that 250,000 tons of bananas are harvested annually over an area of 7,912 hectares.
