The E. Coli crisis began a year ago in Germany with Spanish cucumbers accused of being responsible for the outbreak.

The head of FEPEX (Federación de Productores Exportadores of Frutas) considers the effects of the E.coli crisis have resulted in €500 million of lost exports.

1 year ago, the E. coli crisis began in Germany. The reaction against the Spanish vegetables as a source of the epidemic changed consumer behaviour, mainly in Germany, but also in France and the UK.

The search for the real culprit of the epidemic was long and FEPEX found that producers were not sufficiently compensated for their losses. At European level, crisis management must be improved.
