The production of potatoes continues to increase

Excellent perspectives for the first producer of potatoes of South America.
The production of potatoes in Peru will reach 4.5 million tons this year. This confirms the upward trend of the industry. Between 2004 and 2011the production increased from 3.01 million tons to 4.01 million tons, the cultivated area from 271 900 hectares (in 2004) to 319 000 hectares (2013).
The consumption of potatoes per inhabitant has also increased in recent years, passing from 67 kg (2004) to 83 kg (2011) and should reach 90 kg in the medium term.
Peru is the No. 1 of South America countries with 26.6% of the crops ahead of Brazil (25.1%), Colombia (14.8%) and Argentina (14.0%) .
