With strong demand, especially from China, Cambodia is positioning itself as a rising banana exporter in the region.
Cambodia exported 260,000 tons of fresh bananas in 2024, with 95% going to China, marking strong growth in its agricultural exports. The country now has 21,000 hectares of banana plantations, of which 15,000 hectares are actively harvested, yielding about 25 tons per hectare, according to local media reports.
A total of 24 plantations and 36 packing facilities are officially approved for exporting to China. Cambodia’s total banana production reached 400,000 tons in 2024. Smaller volumes were also shipped to Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia.
During a banana supply chain launch on June 6, 2025, government officials praised private sector investment in agriculture, noting its role in national food security and economic development. In total, Cambodia exported 12 million tons of agricultural goods to 95 countries in 2024.
One company alone exported 20,000 tons of bananas last year and plans to increase exports to 30,000 tons by 2025. Local supermarket supply is also part of their strategy. With strong demand, especially from China, Cambodia is positioning itself as a rising banana exporter in the region.
