India has introduced specific phytosanitary conditions for exports of mango, pomegranate, oranges and garlic to Canada, requiring shipments to meet inspection and documentation standards before entry into the market, according to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
Under the circular dated 1 April 2026, consignments of the listed products are subject to inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Export shipments must clearly identify the origin of the produce on shipping documents and be free from soil, pests, leaves and plant debris prior to dispatch.
The notice also states that if commodities are packed using cereal straw, the material must comply with Canada’s import requirements, while the presence of soil in shipments is prohibited. Additional phytosanitary conditions apply if branches or leaves remain attached to the produce.
