Shanghai surpasses Singapore and became the busiest port in the world and the largest in terms of freight.
Shanghai has surpassed Singapore to become the busiest container port in the world.
Shanghai port realised 29.05 million TEUs in 2010, against 28.4 million TEUs realised by Singapore, according to a statement released by the Shanghai Municipality.
Shanghai is the first port in the world in terms of freight, with 650 million tons handled in 2010, against 590 million in 2009. The authorities indicate that the port of Shanghai will continue to expand.
