In Chile, the new Cabrero site, dedicated to the inspection of fresh fruit intended for the US market, was officially inaugurated by Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic.
The Cabrero site required 2 years of construction and public-private cooperation for investment. It is administered by ASOEX and began operations at the beginning of January 2017. The site presents 3,622m2 of built-up areas that can extend to 20,000m2; It houses employees and staff of SAG, USDA and ASOEX.
The site streamlines the inspection of fruits and vegetables (from the Maule, Biobio, Araucania, Los Rios, Los Lagos regions) for the US market, without requiring further examination. The result is cost savings for producers and exporters and an improvement in the port logistics system.
From January to the end of March 2017, the Cabrero site inspected more than 1.5 million boxes / cartons of fresh fruit (blueberries, apples, pears, cherries). For the season its capacity is estimated at 4.8 to 5 milllion boxes / cartons / trays.
