Bananas production has to improve outputs

Cameroon cannot satisfy the demand because of its too low output.
To satisfy the national and world demand in increase, Cameroon has to improve production.
Cameroon produces on average 1,2 million tons of bananas plantains a year. The African Center of research on banana trees and plantains (Carbap) judges this production insufficient to satisfy the national demand, the one of the nearby countries, and the world demand which is in growth.
In its research centers, Carbap reaches a production of 30 tons to the hectare. In family exploitations, the output is only of 4 tons to the hectare.
"The banana tree became a priority stake of food safety in Central & Western Africa. That’s the reason why it is necessary to increase productivity to answer a demand in increase", indicates Mr Tetang from Carbap.
This weakness of output is worrisome. A regional workshop is going to meet. Participants will come from 6 countries of Central and Western Africa (Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Togo, Benin and Ghana).
