The entry of citrus fruits to New Zealand was projected this December, but the opening is postponed to the first quarter of 2022, due to the tasks that remain to be fulfilled to proceed with the shipments.
In 2021, the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa) gained access to 4 new markets for different agro-export products, such as Hass avocado to Guatemala, blueberries to India, grape and citrus to Argentina, and granadilla and citrus to Uruguay.
In addition, the entry of citrus fruits to New Zealand was projected this December, but the opening is postponed to the first quarter of 2022, due to the tasks that remain to be fulfilled to proceed with the shipments.
Despite the fact that New Zealand only has three million inhabitants and is considered a small market, from the Association of Citrus Producers of Peru (Procitrus) they hope that this market will pay good prices for the fruit.
According to the union, there is probably no increase in citrus shipments this year. Until week 40, 256.000 tons (orange, grapefruit, lemon and tangelo) had been exported, with a projection of closing the year with a total of 270.000 tons. In 2020, 268.000 tons were exported.
Senasa also planned to achieve access for Hass avocado to Malaysia, blueberries to Indonesia, and turmeric and avocado to the United States by the end of 2021, although they have not yet presented any update on this matter.
Despite this, the entity plans to open the South African market for Peruvian mango next January, coinciding with the 2021-2022 season.
