France remains the primary fruit and vegetable supplier for Spain

France remains the top fruit and vegetable supplier to Spain in terms of volume, contributing 629,632 tons, followed closely by Morocco, with 339,476 tons, as of September 2023.
However, in terms of value, Morocco takes the lead with 664 million euros, while France secures the second position with 308 million euros, according to data provided by the Department of Customs and Special Taxes.
The volume of Spanish imports of fruits and vegetables from France experienced a 7% decline from January to September 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 629,632 tons. In contrast, the value surged by 31%, totaling 308 million euros.
In the case of Morocco, Spain witnessed a decrease in both volume (21% less, totaling 339,476 tons) and value (7% less, amounting to 664 million euros) of imports.
Costa Rica emerges as the third-largest supplier to the Spanish market, contributing 266,642 tons of imports, a 15% increase, and 189 million euros, reflecting a 20% growth. Portugal secures the fourth position with 245,416 tons (-6%) and 255 million euros (+22%). Following closely are Peru, with 199,635 tons (+19%) and 381 million euros (+20%), and the Netherlands, providing 197,275 tons (+25%) and 192 million euros (+29%).
In total, Spain's import of fresh fruits and vegetables until September 2023 reached 3,045,268 tons, showing a 9% growth compared to the previous year. The total value amounted to 3,272 million euros, marking a 21% increase in the market's economic footprint.
