Live from Fruit Logistica: The next INTERPOMA will focus on varietal innovation

The next INTERPOMA, the only international event entirely dedicated to the world of apples, will take place as always at Fiera Bolzano (South Tyrol / Italy), from 19 to 21 November. The central theme of this 2020 edition will be varietal innovation.

 

 

 

New varieties of apples have entered the market with great success: many of them, today protected by patent, come from a careful selection made within the framework of public or private breeding programs, and are often sold under a private label. Their new taste profiles and superior organoleptic properties attract consumers who are now turning more to these new products, with a strong impact on the market for traditional varieties.

 

 

 

INTERPOMA intends to be a spokesperson for innovation in the apple sector, and has chosen to establish a prize to reward innovative ideas and projects in the cultivation, conservation and marketing of apple around the world.

 

 

 

The INTERPOMA AWARD, name chosen for this distinction, will be presented at the fair, therefore every 2 years, and each edition will be dedicated to a specific theme. This 1st edition 2020 will have as its theme varietal innovation, with different prizes which will respectively honor a breeding program, a new variety of apples or a marketing project which, by its quality and proven success, has considerably enabled the sector to renew itself and stimulated the consumption of apples. The candidate projects will be evaluated by a jury of experts appointed by Fiera Bolzano, organizer of INTERPOMA.

 

 

 

The 2018 INTERPOMA edition enabled 490 companies from 24 different countries to exhibit in 25,000 m². The show welcomed 20,000 visitors, 25% of whom came from abroad and represented 70 different countries
