Very good harvest 2021 and new packaging without plastic

Harvest 2021 started a bit later than previous years and has just finished. “it is a very good year for sweet onion from Cévennes” commented Gaëtan Reilhan, president of the cooperative Origine Cévennes.
This cultivation year has been not typical with plenty of rain in June and beginning of July which allowed us to irrigate 2 times less than usual. Harvest has started the 4th of August, later than previous years and due to dry weather in August and there were no sanitary concerns. The surface was similar to the one of 2020 with around 52 hectares and the production reached 2600 tons.
“Sweet onion from Cévennes AOP is a safe and really good this year. Harvest is very good, onions are of very good size, bigger than usual” underlined Gaëtan Reilhan, president of cooperative Origine Cévennes.
The merchandising started from the 23rd of August. This year cooperative Origine Cévennes put its efforts to meet the demands of consumers and the market, offering from now on packaging without plastic:
- Cardboard tray (3 sweet onions Category 1, size 60/80)
- Cellulose bag (3 onions ZRP, 500g or 1kg of sweet onions of Cévennes AOP size 40/60 or 50/70)
