5th Irrigation Tunnel in the World opened in Turkey

In the framework of South-eastern Anatolia Project, a multi-sector integrated regional development project of Turkey, this tunnel is the last of the Sanliurfa irrigation tunnels commissioned by the State Hydraulic Works authorities. Long of 17 185m meters and with a diameter of 7 meters, this tunnel was made in 5 years and the flow rate is 90 m3/s. The water supply is the water reservoir of Atatürk Dam
The total agricultural land in the plain Suruç which benefits from irrigation is 950.000 decares 94,814 hectares by free flow.
Thanks to this tunnel, thousands of jobs will be created and an economic growth will be ensured in the region due to the agricultural development.
The opening ceremony was made by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
