Under the auspices of the Union of Mediterranean Exporters, Turkey is participating for the 14th time with a National Pavilion at Fruit Logistica, which will be held from the 8th to the 10th of February in Berlin. This year, along with producers and exporters of fruit and vegetables and various associations and chambers of commerce, the number of companies offering packaging or other technologies as well as logistics services has increased significantly this year.
Despite an unfavorable regional situation, Turkey has succeeded in increasing its exports of fruit and vegetables in 2016 compared to 2015 to reach 3.5 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables.
In 2016, citrus exports reached 1.6 million tonnes, led by the small varieties of citrus fruits, which account for one third of all citrus fruits sold in the world.
The main fruits exported were pomegranates, grapes, cherries, peaches, apricots, apples and figs.
The main vegetables exported were tomatoes, which account for half of total exports of vegetables, followed by peppers, onions, carrots and radishes, courgettes, cucumbers and aubergines.
It should be noted that organic production in Turkey has created new export opportunities.
Russia remains the main market, even if Iraq tightens it. Germany is in 3rd place. Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Belarus are other important markets for Turkey.
Turkish exporters are well aware of the requirements of the international market in terms of plant health and environment and offer their customers all the positive arguments for a quality product with the necessary certificates such as ISO 9001: 2000, HACCP, GAP and Eurepgap .
