Piquillo pepper exports increase 18% in volume in the first quarter of 2022

Piquillo pepper shipments to France totaled 189 tons worth $380,000. This market tripled both in volume and value compared to the same period in 2021. The price grew by 13%, reaching $2.01 per kilo.

Peruvian piquillo pepper exports reached 5,889 tons for $12 million in the first quarter of 2022, reflecting an increase of 18% in volume and 17% in value, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The average price of said variety was $2.02 per kilo, -1% compared to the same period in 2021.
The product was destined to Spain (86% of the total), the United States (4%) and France (3%).
Shipments to Spain increased by 26% in volume and 21% in value, totaling 5,093 tons and $10 million. The average price in this country was $2.02 per kilo, 3% less than what was obtained in the first quarter of 2021.
At the same time, the United States imported 227 tons for $511,000. Both the volume and value of the supplies doubled, compared to the first quarter of 2021. The price reached $2.25 per kilo, almost the same price as in the first quarter of 2021.
