MAFF inspection confirms compliance with export requirements.
Japan clears Peruvian Hass avocado shipments for the 2026 season following March inspection, confirming continued access under annual supervision rules.
Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) conducted an audit of Peru’s export system in March, verifying documentation and inspection procedures carried out by the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA). The process included checks on fruit selection, handling and packing at certified facilities, as required under the bilateral export protocol.
SENASA has issued the 2026 list of authorised production sites and packing plants eligible to ship Hass avocados to Japan, confirming the programme remains operational for the current campaign.
Peru expects to export more than 765,000 tonnes of Hass avocados in 2026, up 6% from 2025. Europe is projected to absorb about 488,000 tonnes (64% of total volume), while shipments to the United States are estimated at 107,000 tonnes and exports to Asia at around 82,000 tonnes, with regional growth forecast at 8%.
