Lawson, Japan's second-biggest convenience store chain, has amitious plans for China, targeting 10,000 stores.

Lawson, Japan's second-biggest convenience store chain, expects strong growth in China and to establish a presence in India.

Lawson, which has 300 stores in China,  sees a huge potential with a possible 10,000 stores in the country within a decade. To achieve this goal Lawson will focus on small towns served by large chains and supermarkets.

Other growth targets include Indonesia and India. The details are not finalised but Lawson should enter India in March 2012.

With this planned international expansion, Lawson should achieve $28.6 billion USD in sales and $1.3 billion USD profits in 2018.

In Japan the results for the group are down slightly for the first half of 2011, but Lawson is recovering faster than expected after the March 11 disaster.
