Stagnating consumption in Europe
FJ
The consumption of fruit and vegetables in Europe is stagnating, according to a study published by Freshfel on consumption of fruit and vegetables in the European Union of 27.
In 2011, the total consumption rose by 2.6% and the daily dose of fruits and vegetables was 382 g / inhabitant. Still below the recommended minimum (400 g / capita / day) by WHO.
For fruit, consumption in 2011 rose to 197.08 g / inhabitant / day on average for the EU-27, with an increase of 3% compared to 2010, but a decrease of 3% compared to the average consumption of the 5 previous years (2006-2010).
For vegetables, the consumption in 2011 rose to 185.52 g / inhabitant / day for the EU-27, with an increase of 2% compared to 2010, but also with a decrease of 3% compared to the average consumption of the previous 5 years.
In light of these trends and levels that remain below the minimum recommended by WHO, action is needed at all levels to stop this decline and stimulate consumption.
