The highest approval in the board’s 20-year history, confirming strong industry support for its work to boost U.S. mango consumption.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has confirmed strong industry support for continuing the National Mango Board’s (NMB) research and promotion program. In a referendum held from October 22 to November 12, 2025, 94.12% of eligible first handlers and importers voted in favour of its renewal.
Those entitled to vote included companies that handled or imported at least 500,000 pounds of fresh mangoes between January 1 and December 31, 2024. The result exceeds the majority threshold required for the program to continue.
NMB Executive Director Ramón Ojeda welcomed the outcome, noting it was the highest approval rate in the board’s 20-year history and a clear endorsement of the organisation’s work to increase mango consumption in the United States.
Under the Mango Promotion, Research, and Information Order, USDA must hold a continuation referendum every five years or when requested by at least 10% of eligible handlers and importers. The program operates under the 1996 Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act, designed to expand markets, strengthen industry competitiveness, and support research and promotional activities.
The USDA’s AMS currently oversees 22 industry-funded research and promotion boards, ensuring financial accountability and program integrity across U.S. agricultural sectors.
