Pears and apples in Russian market in January 2008

Fresh arrivals of apples couldn’t come into the market so the trade was made by stocks left from December. The bestseller was definitely Chinese apples – from yellow varieties to Fuji which had a price 1,835 US$/kg. The second demanded origin was Serbia with Granny – 1,47 US$/kg for size 70+, 1,305 US$/kg for size 60+ and Ida Red – 1,305 US$/kg and 1,06 US$/kg for the same sizes accordingly. Polish apples were sold just 0,02 US$/kg more expensive than Serbian. In general, due to the activation of apple market prices were kept stable in comparison with last week. Bushels were sold on 1,93 US$/kg. Jonagold/Jonagored in 8 kg trays were sold on 1,835 US$/kg, Granny and Golden of sizes 70/80 in 13 kg crates – 1,725 US$/kg. The newcomer was USA apples – 2,15 US$/kg about in week 2 for Golden and Red varieties.
The pear market was effected by delayed vessel in Saint-Petersburg and Moscow though all over the country the sales were running Ok. Prices didn’t change too much but the demand shifted to coming to an end varieties like Comice and Lucas – both over 1,70 US$/kg level. The first USA Anjou pears have started to enter the market since the beginning of week 2.
