Frost destroys orchards in Northern and Southern Poland

In most Polish orchards frost destroyed over 80% of cultivated area. Desperate fruit-growers light fires at night in their orchards to save at least a part of the fruit trees where flowers weren't totally frozen.
The night from Tuesday to Wednesday was the hardest one for many growers. Temperature fell to -10 degrees centigrade but ground frost didn't end.
Fruit-farmers from Grojec near Warsaw tried to save orchards for some nights but in vain since in most orchards almost 100% of fruit trees were destroyed by strong frost.
Both fruit trees and vegetables were hard hit by sudden attack of frost. For example, cherry trees have frozen almost completely and flowers on apple trees were damaged in over 50%. Recent ground frost damaged fruit trees mainly in Northern and Southern Poland.
