Kiwi celebrates this week the 20th anniversary of the ZESPRI brand.
In New Zealand, the entire kiwi industry celebrates the 20th anniversary of the ZESPRI brand, launched in 1997 to differentiate New Zealand fruit in international markets.
The choice was made to market a superior product. With a comprehensive control system where tens of thousands of people in New Zealand (production, packaging, transport) and elsewhere in the world (importers) contribute to ensuring superior quality. The success was rapid and ZESPRI is today the undisputed leader of kiwis.
The kiwi sector expects to do better than doubling its sales with NZD 4.5 billion per year by 2025. Thanks in particular to an increase in world consumption.
Since 1997 sales of ZESPRI kiwis have exceeded NZD 21 billion and the sector invests about NZD 35 million each year in research and selection of varieties.
