Relief across the country as rainfall climbs above average.
The threat of drought has receded as rainfall levels are above average.
Meteorological services announced above-average rainfall during last week, the first week since the beginning of the monsoon rains that rainfall has exceed the average.
The previous week's rains were 2% lower than average.
The rains are essential for 55% of Indian farmland without irrigation. Rainfall less than 90% of the average are considered insufficient, and announced as drought.
