The TOP 15 countries bought 79.4% of world banana imports in 2016.
According to industry analysts, global purchases of imported bananas totaled $14 billion in 2016. This amount for all importing countries shows an increase in value of 6.3% since 2012.
With regard to destination markets, European countries accounted for the largest share of import value in 2016 with purchases valued at $ 7.8 billion, or 55.4% of the world total. The North American market accounted for 21.7% and the Asian market 19.2%. The African market 0.7% and Oceania 0.5%.
