In the British Columbia state (PO) in Canada wholesalers and individuals are struggling to find local strawberries.
In a normal year, wholesalers stagger their purchases throughout the area of the Fraser Valley to have a constant supply from May to September.
This year because of unusually warm, strawberries are ahead. Fruits initially planned for June were ready in May. Those expected in July were harvested in June. Also now the region is experiencing a real "shortage" of local strawberries, pending new crops.
To solve this "shortage" they must simply import strawberries. From California (USA). But this year, California has two major problems: drought and a labor shortage. In June its strawberry production was 15% lower than last year.
