VV | TOMRA Food
Martaş is a cooperative doing frozen food and processing products grown in the Marmara and nearby Aegean regions. The company has two processing facilities in Bursa and Mustafakemalpaşa. Recently they have installed belt sorter from TOMRA Food in Mustafakemalpaşa facility.
Martaş increases its production and export year after year. It has a processing capacity of 40,000 tons of fruit and vegetables, and a cold storage capacity of 20,000 tons. The company focuses on spinach, peas, peppers, broccoli, corn, oranges, cherries, sour cherries, figs and apricots, but they produce a wider range of frozen foods. They are famous for pepper export.
60% of production is being exported, the rest is sold on the domestic market. 95% of customers come from hospitality sector, and also they work with retailers. And all of them expect high product quality, so the company regularly invests in new technology. They exports to Europe, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria, Far Eastern countries. Ayhan Gürbay, General Manager of Martaş says that to further increase food safety and quality they decided to purchase a TOMRA machine. “We aim for perfection in our product’s quality by utilizing our TOMRA machine before the IQF process.” Ayhan says they plan to grow 20-25% every year and adds that sorting capability is the main strength of TOMRA’s belt sorter. It is based on color, product density and humidity. The company installed the machine before the IQF process, which gives them control over food safety and quality from the start.
Ayhan Gürbay says it is very important for them to be able to process different products at the same time, in the same TOMRA’s machine. The company uses domestic crops, so in summer months they require processing different and bulky products in a short timeframe.
Every product has different requirements in processing. With pea machines needs to find snails and insects, spinach should be sorted with similar leaves or insects. Peppers should be sorted by color, tissue defects and rot in peppers should be found. Mr Gürbay is satisfied that TOMRA Food sorters solves all their challenges and offers the ideal sorting of foreign materials and product defects.
