Rains and floods have destroyed banana plantations

Shipments from Colombia should be suspended for an indefinite period because of the flood.

Rains and floods that have affected Urabá and Magdalena have caused much damage.

 

The president of the Association of Banana Producers of Colombia, Roberto Hoyos Ruiz, said that many farms and packinghouses are flooded.

 

 
In the Magdalena region, 3,000 hectares of banana plantations are flooded. In the region of Uraba 10,000 hectares of crops are destroyed.

 

 
With plantations and packinghouses flooded, no shipment will be made until a few weeks.
