Cherry growers in Alicante demand faster payout of approved aid

Agricultural areas in southeastern Spain impacted by delayed aid decisions.
Cherry growers in Spain’s Alicante province are urging the regional Agriculture Department to speed up the approval and payment of subsidy aid that was authorised more than a year ago but has not yet been paid.
Farmers’ association ASAJA Alicante said the support schemes were officially published in December 2024 (for dry-land farms) and June 2025 (for irrigated land). Despite meeting all requirements, many growers are still waiting for a final resolution and payment.
According to ASAJA, over 100 cherry producers have already submitted complete applications with technical support from the association. The continued delay is putting pressure on farm finances and increasing the risk of crop abandonment.
The sector has been hit by repeated drought, extreme weather and rising costs, making the pending aid critical for farm survival. ASAJA has called on authorities to resolve the files immediately and simplify administrative procedures.
