Peru eyes Gulf market as trade talks with UAE move forward

The United Arab Emirates continues to show rising demand for Peruvian agricultural products, including fresh fruit and other food exports.
Peru has completed the first round of negotiations toward a trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported. This move could strengthen access for Peruvian fresh produce exporters to one of the Middle East’s fastest-growing import markets.
Currently, Peruvian products entering the UAE face tariffs of up to 14.5 percent, while agricultural products can be subject to duties as high as 25.6 percent, underlining the potential impact of a future agreement for fresh produce exporters.
The virtual negotiations covered key areas such as market access, sanitary measures, rules of origin and trade facilitation. Both sides agreed on technical frameworks that will support future reductions in tariffs and regulatory barriers.
Officials noted that the United Arab Emirates is a market with growing demand for Peruvian agricultural products, including fresh fruit and other food exports. The discussions are expected to open new commercial opportunities for Peruvian producers once the agreement advances.
