Low crops of apples and pears
MD
In 2012 the harvest of apples and pears will be significantly lower than last year.
Estimates range from -25% to -30% for apples and pears. The apple crop is expected to reach 320 million kilos (418 million in 2011) and the pear crop 208 million kilos. This drop in production is the result of frost that damaged many trees in spring, especially the young.
Compared to last year's harvest, Elstar apple production could be down 30%, and Jonagold by 34 %. The volumes of varieties (Kanzi, Junami, etc.) should be the same as last year with only those of Golden Delicious slightly higher.
