"Radicchio" from CHIOGGIA
The radicchio from Chioggia is the most known of the 5 ranges of radicchio currently grown in the Italy's Veneto region (it's the one with a round shape and the most often used in the 4th range of vegetables).
This radicchio variety has got an IGP certification. On that occasion, a Consortium was set up for the protection and promotion of the product. The Chairman of this Consortium is Mr Garbin, himself radicchio producer.
To get this certification, the Treviso variety can only be grown in one of the 10th communes adjacent Chioggia. To date, only 15 members of the Consortium, growers and market makers, are entitled to this label.
This is the recognition of the origins and the quality of the product mostly. Today the radicchio is grown everywhere but the quality is different, explained Mr Garbin, Chairman.
