Cherries : fall in estimated production

According to forecasts from the Ministry of Agriculture, the French production of cherries will be 13% lower than in 2011.
Production expected in 2012 is lower than last year.
The Department of Statistics for the Ministry of Agriculture released its forecast showing cherry production is expected to decline by 13% over 2011 and 10% from the average of the last 5 years.
If the surfaces were flat, the situation at the time of flowering was very different in different regions. In Rhone-Alpes, the production sharply decreased by almost 30% compared to 2011. A small
harvest is expected in the PACA region and in the Languedoc. In contrast, Roussillon and Midi-Pyrenees have benefited from good conditions.
All areas surveyed represented 87% of national production in 2011: Midi-Pyrenees (9%), Languedoc-Roussillon region (13%), PACA region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur (31%), Rhône -Alpes (34%).
